Control System Survey

Loss Prevention & Technical Survey

Control System Survey provides loss prevention advice and technical surveys for the marine, cargo and insurance sectors.

WAREHOUSE RISK ASSESSMENT

Warehouses are high-risk working environments. In addition to a site-specific risk assessment, a comprehensive warehouse risk review should consider:

  • Fire

  • Flooding

  • Security

  • Storage and handling of hazardous substances

  • Employee safety

  • Product damage

  • Equipment failure

  • Visitor access control

  • Electronic security and surveillance systems

  • Staff vetting

Most of these risks can be identified and reduced by carrying out regular risk assessments, preventing incidents wherever possible and identifying areas for improvement.

VESSEL PURCHASE AND COMPLEX MACHINERY

When complex equipment has to be replaced, an independent technical assessment helps determine:

  • The technical requirements of the new equipment

  • Suitable new technology options for the required performance

  • Assistance during replacement

We also provide technical assistance for vessel purchases, carrying out a visual inspection of the structure and condition of the vessel to report on its status. Our attendance may also include:

  • Machinery tests

  • Cargo gear tests

  • Safety equipment condition and fire tests

  • Sea trials

Our aim is to give the prospective buyer clear recommendations to support the best decision before negotiation.

FIXED AND FLOATING MARINE STRUCTURES

Fixed and floating structures in ports go largely unnoticed in daily operations until they are damaged, when they can create hazards to navigation or prevent normal operations. An incident involving fixed or floating marine structures can lead to large claims, not only for repairs but also for loss of earnings caused by delays. Our team of marine civil engineers and claims handlers provides:

  • Immediate attendance after the incident

  • Damage assessment and technical advice to mitigate delays

  • Investigation of causes and responsibilities

  • Technical assistance during repairs

  • Loss of earnings and claims handling

Our clients (port authorities, terminals, TT Club, P&I Clubs, insurers, shipping lines and marinas) have instructed us in incidents involving damage to:

  • Jetties

  • Loading arms

  • Piers & fenders

  • Dolphins

  • Bollards

  • CBM/SPM moorings

  • Marine hoses & cables

  • Passenger gangways

  • Aids to navigation

  • Pontoons and marina facilities

VEHICLE INSPECTION

The automotive sector demands very high quality standards, and vehicle logistics is no exception. Vehicles must be handled with particular care so they reach the end customer in perfect condition. However, transport always carries risk, and even the best handling procedures can result in damage. Logistics operators need to detect damage early in the chain to activate the right contingency plan and limit delays. Our vehicle inspection service gives logistics operators a full record of vehicle condition at a specific point in the logistics chain, allowing them to:

  • Know the exact physical condition of each vehicle

  • Assess any damage found

  • Prepare a repair plan for the damage

  • Activate a contingency plan to limit delays

Reliable data is essential in logistics: our service helps operators anticipate incidents and mitigate damage, and helps claims departments establish where in the transport chain responsibility lies.

DRONE SURVEY

We use technology to improve our service. Drone surveys let us reach areas that are otherwise inaccessible, with high-resolution video of difficult areas. They are particularly useful for cranes, masts, the outboard side of the hull, cargo holds, ballast tanks and void spaces, terminal cranes, shore tanks, communication antennas, floating aids to navigation, warehouses, bridges and similar structures. We also use drones to inspect areas where human access is hazardous or prohibited for safety reasons.

BUNKER DETECTIVE SURVEY

Physical bunker losses, consumption optimisation, undeclared bunker quantities, tampered sounding pipes and other discrepancies can be identified by our marine surveyors during a Bunker Detective Survey. This helps establish accurate quantities and reduce fuel losses, one of the largest costs in maritime transport.
